Dance
at
Lawrenceville

Our dance program offers a challenging curriculum designed to facilitate growth and exploration levels appropriate to students' experience. We emphasize technique, flow, and athleticism, encouraging students to explore a variety of dance styles and techniques. In our dance program, students expand their artistic and athletic potential; they express their emotions and connect with their community.

The Lawrenceville School Dance Program provides a well-rounded dance experience. Our broad approach prepares dancers for a wide spectrum of opportunities in the dance world and beyond. We develop the skills associated with academic and real-life success, including leadership, self-confidence, self-discipline, collaboration, problem-solving, communication, and cultural appreciation — reflecting the School's mission "to inspire the best in each to seek the best for all."

Dance at Lawrenceville

Once accepted into the Lawrenceville Dance Team (LDT), I instantly felt welcomed into our own little "dance family." Each rehearsal was not without laughter, hard work, and a little bit of gossip, and soon enough, each of these girls became my closest friends. Over the past four years, not only have I gained a new sense of confidence on and off the stage, I have also discovered the best family of girls on campus.

Dance at Lawrenceville

Taking into account all the various hours I've spent in the Kirby Arts Center (KAC), dance has definitely been my single greatest co-curricular at Lawrenceville (especially during tech week!). I am forever grateful to everyone I've met in the dance program and to everyone who's been supportive of my performances. I hope to continue dancing in college and to come back for every dance performance to see the program's continued growth!

The Lawrenceville School Dance Collective (LSDC) is an opportunity for the School's premier dancers to learn and grow. In LSDC, dancers polish and expand their craft through both pre-professional training and performance opportunities. The Collective provides a nurturing space and is committed to empowering our dancers with the crucial leadership and development skills that help to facilitate achievement and success on the stage, in the classroom, in everyday life, in the community, and beyond.

Our dancers are always pushing themselves to greater heights and facing bolder challenges; working collaboratively while problem solving complex choreographic computations, and working hard to be better dancers and better people. That passion and energy are what sets them leaps and bounds ahead - the confidence and approach to face life’s many challenges.

En Corps

En Corps is home to all things dance at Lawrenceville. Its mission is to promote, celebrate, and encourage all Lawrentians to experience dance, performing as part of a student-led dance ensemble and in the three main-stage Dance Series throughout the year. En Corps lets students take their first leap and continue setting the barre even higher.

En Corps is ever changing and evolving to meet the needs of the dance world and Big Red Dance! Do you have a cultural dance style that you want your fellow Lawrentians to discover? Are you interested in starting a new dance ensemble that will help grow and enhance the Big Red Dance Experience? Dancers are encouraged to submit their concept to the Director of Dance, Mr. Wilder, during their third or fourth form year of Lawrenceville.

En Corps Ensembles

Our Dance Ensembles are open to ALL Lawrentians. They rehearse once per week and perform each term in our Dance Series. We are looking for dancers of ALL experience levels, even NO EXPERIENCE at all. We want you to JOIN OUR TEAM!

FRO Beats is an Afro-Fusion dance ensemble. Afro-fusion describes popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. The mission of FRO Beats is to create a space for any student, regardless of experience and background, to learn more about this genre — which is underrepresented in American culture — and to embrace and explore the diversity within African cultures.
